Ticks
American Dog Tick- This tick is also known as the Wood Tick.  It is one of the most well-known hard ticks.  Ticks can spread different diseases when feeding off of you and this tick is known for Rocky Mountain spotted fever.  This tick can be exposed to Lyme disease, but is NOT a competent vector to transmit it.  Ticks CANNOT be fully eliminated, but can be managed through the help of habitat modification.  The ticks like moist humid areas so that makes long grass very inviting to them.  The best way to push them away from the structure is to cut long grass and make it less inviting to them.  If the population seems to be out of control, then a pesticide application is necessary.  Each location must be looked at in order to estimate control parameters.

Deer Tick- This tick is also known as the Black-legged Tick.  This is the tick that known for transmitting Lyme disease.  They must be on the host for 24 hours for the bacteria to enter the host.  Their main food source is to feed off of deer and rodents.  Identification is crucial to reducing the population.  Ticks CANNOT be fully eliminated, but can be managed through the help of habitat modification.  The ticks like moist humid areas so that makes long grass very inviting to them.  The best way to push them away from the structure is to cut long grass and make it less inviting to them.  If the population seems to be out of control, then a pesticide application is necessary.  There are a few ways to treat for this tick.  Each location must be looked at in order to estimate control parameters.
